Ensure equity, inclusion, and access to opportunity for all residents
A sustainable community ensures equity and inclusion, cultivates collaboration, embraces diversity, and provides opportunity to access quality education, employment and public resources for all. Prioritizing equity and empowerment upholds all residents’ opportunity to participate in the political and cultural life as well as boards and committees making decisions that impact their communities. All residents should be enabled to live with dignity and address issues related to intergenerational inequity.
Human services must be readily available for the most vulnerable community members, including those who are homeless, require mental health and substance use services, or have experiences abuse or neglect at any age. Simultaneously, alleviating the impacts of poverty, preventing residents from falling into poverty and proactively enabling those who are living in poverty to obtain greater, lasting economic stability and security are of critical importance in a sustainable community.
