Create equitably shared prosperity and access to quality jobs
A sustainable and prosperous economy depends on responsible environmental stewardship and a workforce possessing the skills needed to fill in-demand jobs without compromise to the workers’ quality of life. This combination and intention around economic development fuels a community’s ability to start, grow, retain and attract businesses that embrace sustainable practices and provide community leadership in addressing key challenges.
Sustainability is a fundamental component of building a strong community and prosperous local economy. Prosperity is dependent on the wealth of a society sustaining, or not declining, over time. This wealth includes human capital, knowledge capital, and natural capital. The local economy should provide opportunities for all individuals to have the ability to develop their talents, contribute to the community and live a high quality of life.
