You might remember Michael Dignam’s name as a golf standout at Bishop Verot back in the early 2000s. Upon graduating in 2006, he was recruited to play at several universities and received a number of local scholarships, including the Sam Sirianni Athletic and Southwest
Florida PGA scholarships.
“I reached out for any scholarship I could to take the financial burden off my family,” he says. “I really appreciated it. The scholarship donors were very helpful to a young person trying not to take on a ton of debt while going to college.”
The multiple funding sources also proved helpful for financing unexpected expenses – relocating to Nashville and purchasing a warmer wardrobe.
Dignam always expected to attend college, he just wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. He discovered he enjoyed problem solving and math and majored in economics and Spanish and studied abroad in Buenos Aires.
After college graduation, Dignam worked in investment banking and for a private equity company. He’s now the CFO of an oil and gas company in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he’s beginning to get involved in the community.
“I’m starting to ask myself how I can help young people trying to follow the same path I followed,” he says. “I want to get involved in organizations like the community foundation to repay the favor I was given.”
